Teru Kuwayama is a New York photographer whose focus has been on Afghanistan, Pakistan and Kashmir. He is the founder of Lightstalkers, a global, online community of photographers and unconventional travelers, and the Battlespace project, a traveling exhibition of photographs from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. He received a 2010 Knight News Challenge Award to launch Basetrack, an online social media project that chronicled the deployment of a U.S. Marine battalion in Afghanistan. Currently a TED Senior Fellow, he was a Knight Journalism Fellow at Stanford University, a TED Global Fellow and an Ochberg Fellow at the Dart Center for Journalism and Trauma. His work has been featured in Esquire’s “The Best and Brightest” of 2004 and earned numerous awards, including a Dorothea Lange-Paul Taylor Award, an Alicia Patterson Fellowship, a New York Foundation for the Arts Award, and the Alexis Award for World Peace. He graduated from SUNY at Albany.
