Campaign Reporting and the Election Season

How well did the news media serve our communities during the 2012 elections? The reviews are mixed. We'll discuss what the media did well and why it failed in other areas, particularly in covering issues important to communities of color. The Washington press corps remains mostly the dominion of white males, and there were few journalists of color on the campaign trail. Indeed, one study showed a dearth of Front Page election stories written by journalists of color and none of the moderators for the presidential debates was a person of color. Did our communities suffer from the lack of representation?
